What is the Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method, named after Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, who developed, taught, and spread it, is a method of somatic re-education aimed at improving mobility.
It focuses on the relationship and interaction between the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system, aiming for balanced cooperation between them—essential for efficiency and precision in all human activity.
It helps individuals improve many aspects of daily life, from simple actions such as walking or sitting to performance in more demanding activities. It uses gentle movements to increase range and ease of motion and to enhance overall functionality of the human body.
It benefits people with neuromusculoskeletal and chronic pain or movement difficulties, as well as those who wish to expand their movement capabilities.
Classes
Group Classes – ATM (Awareness Through Movement)
In group classes, students are guided to observe, feel, and become aware of their bodies through structured sequences of movement, exploring specific functions.
The teacher provides verbal guidance, suggesting simple and slow movements that promote muscular relaxation without unnecessary effort, within each person’s “easy and comfortable” range of motion. This allows changes in posture through the development of new movement patterns.
This exploration aims to cultivate ease and efficiency in movement. The effects are both deep and immediate. Students learn how to learn. At the same time, they gain vitality and effectiveness in daily activities.
Muscle tone is regulated, posture is reorganized, movement becomes freer and more comfortable, and pain is reduced or even eliminated.
Each lesson lasts about one hour and is a complete unit, focusing on a specific function of the body (e.g., spinal rotation, flexion, extension, etc.). Movements are mainly performed on the floor, lying on the back, side, or stomach.
