What About
Through the symbiotic practice of Yoga and Freediving, we embark on a journey of reconnection with the body, the breath, and our intuition. We immerse ourselves in a unique experience that awakens deep, primal reflexes and reveals the healing properties of yoga, breathwork, underwater meditation, and meditation as a whole.
The purpose of this workshop is to experience—even momentarily—the state in which the mind becomes still, balanced, and free from its usual activity, allowing space for the present moment. It is the moment when perception is no longer consumed by thoughts of the past or future, but expands into the now.
The body, in its entirety, perceives and feels what is happening in the present moment. It enters a state of effortless suspension, experiencing a harmonious interaction with energy—a sense of flow, of vitality, of life itself.
This is a process that is always happening in the here and now, yet often escapes our awareness because we are preoccupied with what came before or what comes next.
The primary aim of yoga is precisely this state: a calm mind. From this state, one can experience both practice and everyday life with greater awareness.
Similarly, a calm mind is a fundamental requirement in freediving. One cannot experience the magic of the underwater world without learning to relax both physically and mentally.
Both disciplines have developed physical, breathing, and meditative techniques that lead toward this state of calm. This workshop is a synthesis of these approaches, offering tools to experience and cultivate a शांत (still) mind.
Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation
The yoga sessions combine asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), yoga nidra, and meditation. They are carefully designed to support the purpose of the workshop: to create balance, prepare the body as a whole, and deepen our understanding of relaxation and mental stillness.
Each session complements the next, creating a dynamic flow that adapts to the needs of each day.
The physical practices (asana) help warm up the body, cultivate relaxation at a muscular level, and teach us how to remain at ease within the body—an essential experience to be later applied in the water.
Through pranayama, we connect with our respiratory system, expand our breathing capacity, and explore the relationship between breath and mind. We observe how each breathing technique affects our energy and learn how to manage this energy afterward. The pranayama practices are directly linked to our work in the water.
Each meditation session focuses on specific aspects of the mind and senses, helping us move closer to the experience of mental stillness—whether in or out of the water. The aim is for each participant to develop a personal practice they can carry into daily life beyond the workshop.
Freediving
Freediving naturally induces a gentle and deeply calming mental and emotional state, helping us reconnect with the body in an intuitive way.
Like meditation, freediving involves breath control, mental focus, and relaxation. As we submerge and hold our breath, deeply embedded mammalian reflexes are gradually activated: the body redirects oxygen to vital organs and slows the heart rate.
We develop techniques to manage breath-holding, maintain a calm mind, and navigate bodily sensations in the unique environment of water—enhancing self-awareness.
In both freediving and yoga, breath control and the slowing of the heart rate lead to reduced stress and anxiety. A lasting sense of calm and well-being often accompanies us throughout the day—even after leaving the water.
Regular freedivers often develop physiological adaptations similar to those living at high altitudes: the body becomes more efficient in oxygen use, supporting overall health and vitality.
In this workshop, freediving is introduced at a beginner level. We will use its techniques to explore breath, experience stillness underwater, and reconnect with a primal sense of calm and harmony in the aquatic environment.
No prior experience is required—only a love for the water and basic familiarity with it.
The theoretical session and the practical diving sessions, designed to gradually introduce participants to the world of freediving.
It is important to note that the goal is not athletic performance, but rather to explore the therapeutic and meditative aspects of freediving.
Theoretical Session / Discussions
The theoretical session will introduce the fundamentals of freediving and preparation for our first dive and will take the form of an open discussion and reflection on our experiences.
Topics may include:
· What relaxation is and why we need it
· The relationship between senses and emotions
· The connection between the aquatic environment and our inner world, including parallels with the prenatal experience in the amniotic fluid
These topics will not be approached as lectures, but through experiential learning, reflection, and group discussion.
